Environment
Metaloffice has always recognised the value of protecting the environment. From the very inception of our company we have endeavored to use sustainable resources and materials, in both our product design and manufacturing processes.
Our manufacturing plant holds certification in BS EN ISO 14001:2004, BS EN ISO 9001 :2008 and is a member of the British Safety Council.
“Protecting the environment has to be of equal importance as other managerial activities and essential in a sound sustainable business”
We know words alone have no real value, it is action that counts. Below are some of the actions we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint and help protect the environment:
- In 2008/10 we invested over £1 million in new energy efficient plant and equipment and reduced our carbon footprint from 0.019 tonnes per unit to 0.007 tonnes per unit. Or WBCSD 0.00313 tCO2e/unit - storage cabinet. (Using the methodology based on the GHG Protocol produced by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development).
- All our products are designed and manufactured to be up to 98% recyclable.
- 67% of the steel we use is produced from recycled steel.
- 90% of our products are manufactured from raw materials and whenever possible sourced from local or UK suppliers who share the same environmental values and standards as ourselves.
- Product packaging has been reduced by 40%.
- 92% of our packaging is recyclable and is 94% manufactured from previously recycled products.
- We use as much natural light as possible in both the manufacturing and office environments.
- Installed low energy lighting and have a “Lights out “ policy during breaks or any un-used sections of the factory.
- Use the latest generation of environmentally friendly and solvent free powder coating paints.
- Installed new high efficiency powder paint re-claiming cyclones.
- Reduced our gas consumption by 20%, by using lower temperature powder paints.
- 90% of our employees live within a 10-mile radius of the company. With 50% using green methods of transport to work.
- In the first quarter of 2010 we installed a new high speed, reduced power consumption punching machine.
- In mid 2011 we will be able to utilise the waste heat from the powder coating ovens to provide the factory with hot water
- We will continue to work with the Energy Savings Trust and have program of continuous improvement throughout 2011/12.
